Avalara was named to the prestigious Inc. 500 list, an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fastest growing private companies.

Avalara earned the position of 275 in the class of 2010 and shares this honor with notable alumni such as Intuit, Microsoft, Oracle, Visa and scores of other powerhouses.

 The 2010 Inc. 500 is a group of companies that are smaller but much faster-growing than last year’s crop. Aggregate revenue is $11.3 billion—down from last year's $18.4 billion—but median three-year growth is 1,231 percent, substantially up from last year’s 880.5 percent. The companies on this year's list employ more than 45,000 people. Avalara is joined on the Inc. 500 by 15 other Washington-based companies from across all business segments.

To determine winners, Seattle Business magazine conducted an independent survey of employee experience, including training, information sharing, and benefits, based on entries from several hundreds of companies throughout Washington State. Following a numerical evaluation of these surveys, Avalara was deemed to place in the top 15 of all respondent companies.

Rory Rawlings, founder and chief tax automation officer for Avalara, has been named one of the 2009 Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting by Accounting Today, a top industry publication. For 15 years now, the Top 100 list has recognized leaders who bring the most value to the accounting profession.
 
This is the second time an Avalara executive has made the list, and Rory Rawlings joins Marshal Kushniruk, executive vice president of strategic accounts and customer experience, who was named to the 2008 list – firmly signaling the preeminence of Software-as-a-Service within the accounting profession.

Along with Rawlings, the 2009 list includes: U.S. President Barack Obama, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Boards Robert Herz, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, and Intacct CEO Mike Braun, not to mention other key players affecting the industry, including lawyers, CPAs, and policymakers.

Accounting Today selected influencers throughout the industry that will play a major role in helping accounting to reach “New Frontiers.” The publication cited Avalara as a leader “at the forefront of making sales tax less taxing, and Kushniruk is the one getting its message out.”

Avalara's Customer Account Manager Terry Arndt was named one of this year’s 40 Under 40 by Kitsap Business Journal, its annual recognition of outstanding young business leaders on Washington’s Kitsap Peninsula.
 
Arndt was recognized for the plethora of contributions he has made in a number of endeavors, including his work as a customer account manager, ensuring Avalara customers receive the information, resources, and tools to maximize their experience with Avalara sales and use tax products. When not at Avalara, Arndt oversees Life After Graduation, LLC, a national publishing company he founded in 1999 to provide tools, resources, and information to ensure financial, career, and academic success for college students and recent graduates.

Avalara has full support for the Microsoft Windows 7 OS with three of its best-selling products: AvaTax for GP, AvaTax Consumer Use, and the AvaTax Software Developers Kit. These products have been stringently tested and have proven to be fully compatible with Microsoft’s new operating system, which is scheduled to launch October 22, 2009.
 
The changes within these Avalara products were minor in nature and focused on the features most closely tied in with the OS, ensuring that firewalls and other network services tie seamlessly with Windows 7.
