What do I need to do to join VAT Services on Amazon (option 1)?

To migrate to VAT Services on Amazon, the following steps need to be completed:

  • Select Option 1 on the program closure email before 15 November 2018.
  • Provide data by email for any filings up to 31 October 2018 to filingsupport@avalara.com by 30 November 2018.

Once you have selected Option 1, Amazon will contact you via email and provide additional details about on-boarding to VAT Services on Amazon. In the meantime, further information can be found here.

What do I need to do to enrol in Avalara’s Enterprise VAT Compliance offering (option 2)?

To migrate to Avalara’s Enterprise VAT compliance offering, the following steps need to be completed:

  • Select Option 2 on the program closure email before 15 November 2018.
  • Provide data by email for any filings up to 31 October 2018 to filingsupport@avalara.com by 30 November 2018.

What do I need to do if I want to switch to an alternative provider (option 3)?

To switch to an alternative provider for VAT compliance obligation, the following steps need to be completed:

  • Select Option 3 on the program closure email before 15 November 2018.
  • Provide data by email for any filings up to 31 October 2018 to filingsupport@avalara.com by 30 November 2018.
  • Avalara will inform the relevant tax authorities that we will no longer be the tax agent beyond 31 December 2018. 

What happens if I miss the deadline of 15 November 2018 and do not click any option? Can I still move to VAT Services on Amazon or Avalara’s Enterprise VAT Compliance offering?

If no option has been selected by 15 November 2018, you will be defaulted to find an alternative provider (option 3).

If you decide to move to VAT Services on Amazon or Avalara’s Enterprise VAT Compliance offering after 15 November 2018, the onboarding process for these services may not be completed in time for the program closure and timely filings after 31 December 2018 would be at risk.

Can I change to alternative provider before 1 January 2019 and will I get a pro-rata refund?

Yes, if you would like to leave the current program before its closure, please notify us by email to paneuprogram@avalara.com.

What about my back filings / catch up returns?

Back filings or catch-up returns between receipt of your VAT number up to 31 December 2018, while you are in the current compliance program with Avalara, will be filed by Avalara by 31 December 2018. 

What if I have already completed my annual renewal in 2018? When will I receive my refund for the remaining part of my contract?

We will provide pro-rata refunds for any unused subscription period. These refunds will be provided by 31 January 2019.

When is my last filing obligation on the current compliance program?

The last filing obligation to be completed under this program will be for filings due in December 2018. Any subsequent filings (December 2018, Q4 2018 or 2018 Annuals) must be filed under new program as per your option choice. 

Will you cover my annual return obligations?

Annual filings will not be supported as the current compliance program will close on December 31 2018. You will need to make alternative arrangements outside of the VAT Compliance program to cover annual filings.


The VAT Services on Amazon program and Avalara’s Enterprise VAT Compliance program could support these filings.

I need back filings to be completed from before my contract, how can I get support?

We are currently prioritising the completion of returns within your contract period to be filed by 31 December 2018. Avalara can support returns prior to your contract period through the Avalara Enterprise VAT Compliance service. Additional information on this service can be found here. You could also make alternative arrangements with another tax compliance provider.

If I’m switching to an alternative provider (option 3), when can I expect copies of all my filed returns?

Copies of your filed returns will be shared with you, at the latest, by 18 January 2019. 

Who do I contact if I get penalties/letters/etc. from the tax office after the current compliance program has closed?
