Avalara is returning to Orange County for a fun A-List event on October 24th. A-List events deliver user-inspired content, training, and networking opportunities for customers across the country. Attendees will meet with subject matter experts on Avalara products, services, and tax compliance, followed by a wine-blending experience and competition, passed hors d’oeuvres, and delightful wine pairings.


Seating is limited for this event. First-come, first-serve. We will create a waiting list for those who are not able to register. You must attend the meeting portion to be eligible to attend the Wine-Blending Experience & Competition and following reception. Sona Akmakjian
Sona Akmakjian, Strategic Business Development and Alliances, DMA

Sona has more than 25 years of experience with multi-state sales and use taxes and transaction tax software. Prior to joining DMA, Sona, worked for Taxware where she was Vice President of Client Services and Senior Director of Partner Implementation. Her responsibilities included tax software implementation, client relationship management, technical support management, product management, and strategic alliance management. Sona was also a Senior Manager of Tax Advisory Services for a Big 4 firm, where she led the transaction tax automation practice in the western United States. She gained extensive experience managing complex tax system and ERP projects. Sona also provided multi-state sales/use tax consulting services for companies in a variety of industries including healthcare, retail, and manufacturing. She provided audit defense, reverse audit, and voluntary disclosure services for clients. Earlier in her career, Sona worked as a Sales/Use Tax Auditor with the California Board of Equalization.

Katherine Parrish
Katherine Parrish, CMI, Senior Tax Manager, Sales/Use Tax, DMA

As a Senior Tax Manager, Katherine works closely with clients to develop sales/use tax planning and tax recovery strategies that result in significant tax savings. She specializes in conducting overpayment reviews by examining current and past sales/use tax records to obtain overpaid taxes for major corporations in a variety of industries. Katherine also assists clients with audit defense – negotiating with auditors and other state taxing officials – to minimize their tax liabilities. In addition, she provides sales/use tax training seminars to DMA’s clients.
