System not updated after announcement of Nil late fee on GSTR3B, Excess Amount to be re-credited soon

After the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs notified that late fees on GSTR-3B would be waived off on returns with Nil liabilities, a number of taxpayers came forward to file Nil returns. The CBIC had announced that all taxpayers having no tax liabilities but who have not filed their returns between July 2017 and January 2020 will not be charged a late fee. However, the GST portal system was not updated, causing much concern. To clarify the issue, the GST portal tweeted stating" change in late fee amount made vide notification no. 57/2020 dated 30-06-2020 has been incorporated on the GST portal. Late fee paid in excess than prescribed in the notification shall be re-credited in due course."
