Accounting Manager at CORE Security Technologies
With the amount of transactions that we do, it [Avalara] was definitely worth the money. And in terms of getting the paperwork and the implementation, it was a piece of cake.
I’m a small company accounting manager who does it all. The sales tax process was taking a huge chunk of my time.
When we heard that Avalara could do the filing as well as the calculations, that’s really what convinced us that it was the way to go. Before, in order for me to get everything right, I had lists and checklists. But as we grow, there are more and more states that I have to keep track of and each state has different deadlines and different timing. Now, I don’t have to worry about it.
As a growing company, we realized our nexus in several states was growing at a rapid pace. I was a little nervous about how much time I was spending filing sales tax returns and getting the correct rates on each invoice. When I heard that Avalara offered this with our financial ap’s software, I watched a demo and said, “I need this.”
I have a CFO who’s had years of experience with sales tax audits in various states and he considers that one of his top five risk items. As we grew and added more nexus, he agreed quickly that we needed help; we needed automation.
I would definitely tell someone who was thinking about automating that it’s gonna save hours of time every month and it’s going to minimize risk in terms of what can go wrong and what you can miss out on calculating the sales tax. It will save you a ton of time and risk.
