Texas Farmers: New Requirement for Sales Tax Exemptions
- Dec 14, 2011 | Will Frei

The Texas Comptroller alerted Texas farmers and ranchers that, beginning Jan. 1, 2012, they will need a registration number to claim sales tax exemptions on the purchase of select items used to produce timber and agricultural goods.
Items subject to this requirement include fertilizers, machinery used in the production of timber, and seedlings used in the production of timber for sale. For a complete list, see Texas House Bill 268.
The alert, which appeared today in North Texas e-News, states that farmers and ranchers seeking such exemptions must apply for a registration number with the Comptroller of Public Accounts. The application is available both online and in paper form.
