Be aware that if you have a delinquency in paying your Rhode Island sales tax obligations, you will not be allowed to renew your Rhode Island permit and thus be ineligible to do business in Rhode Island.
According to the State Tax Division, “21-day notices” were sent out on March 15 “…to holders of sales permits, reminding them that they are delinquent on some type of state tax, such as sales, income, or employer tax.” Those delinquent taxpayers (roughly 4,450 letters were sent) have only 21 days to “…file all of your outstanding returns and pay all of the tax that you owe,” or you will not be able to renew the permit and do business.
The Tax Division’s Compliance & Collections section is willing to answer your questions. Call 401-574-8941 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. business days (EST) to speak to a representative.
