Southaven Mississippi Sitting Pretty With Sales Tax Revenue

Southaven Mississippi “…has receive its largest sales tax revenue in the city’s 32-year history.” Mayor Greg Davis says, “…the city has averaged $1 million in sales tax collections over the past six months.”
Sales tax is a main source of revenue for Southaven. Last year, they collected $11.6 million in sales tax revenue. According to the Fiscal Year 2011 Budget Highlights 34% of the general fund comes from sales tax; and the general fund makes up 62% of the budget funds. The largest budget item funded by the general fund is public safety, taking 60% of the general fund.
However, the city states that the sales tax revenue continues at “pre-2007” levels.
