Kansas Local Sales and Use Tax Rate Changes July 2012

The following Kansas cities will implement a change to their city sales tax rate resulting in the following overall combined rates:

  • Cimarron – 8.70%
  • Frontenac – 8.55%
  • Wellington – 8.55%

The City of Wichita created “…a Community Improvement District (CID). The name of the district is Wichita Greenwich & K-96 CID with a 1.20% tax rate.” The combined rate in that district is 8.5%.

Bracket cards for the new rate changes are available and can be obtained off the Department’s website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/bracketcards.html.

The Kansas Sales & Use Tax Jurisdiction Code Booklet effective July 1, 2012 is available here: http://www.ksrevenue.org/pdf/pub1700712.pdf.

According to the booklet, out-of-state retailers are required to collect the Kansas compensating use tax on a sale that is delivered to a Kansas address. The retailer would collect “…compensating use tax on this sale at a rate equal to the state and local sales tax rate in effect…” for that locality.
