Rhode Island Sales Tax Permit Renewal Reminder
- Jun 1, 2012 | Susan McLain

Rhode Island taxpayers have only one month left to ensure they are current on their taxes.
Each July, sales tax permits are renewed and according to the Rhode Island Tax News, “If you remain delinquent on your state taxes, your state sales tax permit won’t be renewed.”
Notices were sent to more than 4,000 delinquent taxpayers with sales tax permits in March. The notices informed them of their delinquency and reminds them to bring their business up-to-date in order for their permit to be renewed.
What happens if a delinquent taxpayer doesn't pay up?
“The Tax Division places a ‘block’ on their accounts, preventing renewal of their sales tax permits….” The Rhode Island Tax Division reminds taxpayers that if they want to continue to conduct business legally, they need their permit renewed. “(Besides, paying your back taxes takes a weight off your shoulders.)”
