Saint Tammany Parish Louisiana Sales Tax Rate Changes

Effective July 1, 2012, Summit Fremaux jurisdiction in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana has reduced the incentive sales tax rate by .5%.

The combined local rate is now 5.25%; plus the state’s 4.0% brings the total sales tax to 9.25%.

The Summit Fremaux retail development previously had a 1-cent sales tax in order “…to reimburse the Bayer group for infrastructure improvements on the property such as streets, water and sewer lines and lighting, as administered by a governing board composed of the [Slidell] City Council.”

Bayer Properties “…asked the [Slidell city] council to reduce the 1-cent to a half-cent, since a number of major retailers were concerned the additional sales tax for shoppers there would make them less competitive.”

The retail development has been slow to develop but in April, Slidell City Mayor Freddy Drennan “…had said the project would be finished in June 2013.” However, Jill Deer, a partner of Bayer Properties indicated that the completion date for the shopping mall was still in “flux.”
