Alcoa Tennessee Sales Tax Rate Change

Alcoa, Tennessee has released Notice #12-09 announcing a local sales tax increase to 2.75%. The sales tax increase was approved by a majority of voters and is effective October 1, 2012.
“The new rate will apply to all taxable sales of tangible personal property made on or after October 1, 2012 and to the sale of taxable services for billing periods starting on or after October 1, 2012 by sellers located in the City of Alcoa, Tennessee.”
The consumer use tax also increases to 2.75%.
Additional Information
The local option tax rates in the City of Alcoa applies to the first $1,600 of the sale price, provided the item is not exempted by some other statute. However, the bulletin notes that “…there is a state single article tax rate of 2.75% applicable to the sales price, from $1,600.01 up to and including $3,200, of any item of tangible personal property.”
Tax Cap
There is a local tax cap of $44 “…on sales of single articles of tangible personal property.”
