Kansas Local Sales Tax Rate Changes October 2012


The State of Kansas has reported the following sales tax rate changes in local districts effective October 1, 2012:

Cowley County

The county decreased the county sales tax rate by 0.50%, affecting the county rate and the following cities (new rate effective October 1, 2012 is listed):

  • Cowley County – 6.3%
  • City of Arkansas City – 8.3%
  • City of Atlanta – 6.3%
  • City of Burden – 7.3%
  • City of Cambridge – 6.3%
  • City of Dexter – 6.3%
  • City of Geuda Springs – 6.3%
  • City of Parkerfield – 6.3%
  • City of Udall – 7.3%
  • City of Winfield – 7.3%

The following cities have changed their city sales tax rate for a combined rate of:

  • City of Coldwater – 8.3%
  • City of Independence – 9.3%
  • City of Yates Center – 9.05%

In addition, the following cities added new special districts to result in a new combined rate.

  • City of Hutchinson – created a Community Improvement District (CID) containing Hobby Lobby and Orschlen (Hutchinson Mall, 1500 E 11th Ave.) with a 1% tax rate. The combined rate is 9.05%.
  • City of Hutchinson – created a CID named Hutchinson Fairfield Inn CID (1111 N Lorraine St., Hutchinson, KS 67501) with a 2% tax rate. The combined rate is 10.05%.
  • City of Lenexa – created a CID named Lenexa Prairie Creek CID with a 1% tax rate. The combined rate is 9.90% and affects a range of addresses.
  • City of Mission – created a CID named Mission Crossing CID with a 1% tax rate. The combined rate is 9.775% and affects a range of addresses on Metcalf Avenue, Broadmoor Street and Travis Street.
  • City of Topeka – created a CID named Topeka Holliday Square CID with a 1% tax rate. The combined rate is 9.95% and affects a range of addresses on SW Topeka Blvd., SW Armco Drive, SW 29th Street and SW 31st Street.
  • Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City – created a CID named Kansas City Wyandotte Plaza CID with a 1% tax rate. The combined rate is 9.925% and affects a range of addresses on State Avenue and N 78th Street.
