Tennessee Sales Tax Rate Changes October 2012

Several Tennessee local sales tax rate changes will take place October 1, 2012. 

Rate Changes

The following cities will increase the local sales and use tax rate to 2.75%, effective October 1, 2012:

  • Arlington
  • Bartlett
  • Collierville
  • Germantown
  • Lakeland

Additional Tax Rate Information

In the cities listed above, the local option sales tax applies to the first $1,600 of the sale price of any item sold, unless it is ". . . exempted from local tax or taxed at another rate by statute."


  • Local tax cannot exceed $44 on a single article sold;
  • The local tax rate applies to any taxable service;
  • ". . . [T]here is a state single article tax rate of 2.75% applicable to the sales price, from $1,600.01 up to and including $3,200, of any item of tangible personal property."
