Illinois Sales Tax Rate Changes for 2013


The Illinois Department of Revenue has announced a number of local sales tax rate changes that are scheduled to take effect January 1, 2013.

Changes will affect the following locally imposed sales taxes:

Sales Tax Rate Changes for Sales of General Merchandise:

Glen Carbon, in Illinois Route 157 Bus. District 6.85% +1.00% 7.85% Business District
Glenview, in Chestnut-Waukegan Bus. District 9.00% +1.00% 9.75% (due to Cook County Home Rule Decrease of 0.25%) Business District
Hopkins Park (Kankakee County) 6.25% +3.00% 9.25% Home Rule
Matteson, in Lincoln Hwy/Cicero Avenue Development Business District 8.25% +1.00% 9.00% (due to Cook County Home Rule Decrease of 0.25%) Business District
Morton Grove 9.25% +0.25% 9.25% (due to Cook County Home Rule Decrease of 0.25%) Business District
Westchester 8.25% +1.00% 9.00% Non-Home Rule

In addition, a decrease of 0.25% will affect the Cook County Home Rule Sales Tax in January 2103. As a result, if your December 31, 2012 rate is 8.25%, your January 1, 2013 rate will be 8.00%. If your December 31, 2012 rate is 8.50%, your January 1, 2013 rate will be 8.25%, and so on.
