  • Jan 24, 2013 | Gail Cole

 Outdated Appliances? Replace Them With Energy Star Products During the Maryland Energy Star Weekend.

"Shop Maryland Energy" says the Comptroller of Maryland, reminding that a sales tax holiday will be offered for certain Energy Star products the weekend of February 16 - 18, 2013. Qualifying products will be exempt from the state's 6 percent sales tax during that time.

Qualifying Energy Star products include:

  • Air conditioners;
  • Clothes washers;
  • Furnaces;
  • Heat pumps;
  • Boilers;
  • Standard size refrigerators;
  • Dehumidifiers;
  • Programmable thermostats; and
  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Solar water heaters are now always exempt from Maryland sales tax.

The Energy Star Tax Free Weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, February 16. It concludes at midnight on Monday, February 18. Additional information is available at the Maryland Comptroller website.

There will be one more Maryland sales tax holiday in 2013, for clothing and footwear priced $100 or less, during the second week of August.
