Streamlined Sales Tax Recertifies Rhode Island
- Feb 5, 2013 | Gail Cole

According to an advisory released by the Rhode Island Division of Taxation, the "Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board has found Rhode Island to be in compliance with the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement" and has recertified the state for another year.
The goal of Streamlined Sales Tax is to "simplify and modernize sales and use tax administration." In addition, certified members "can generate additional revenue … from out-of-state retailers that voluntarily collect and remit" the state sales tax. Such out-of-state retailers contribute approximately $2 million annually to Rhode Island.
