Kansas Sales Tax Rate Change, July 2013


 Kansas announces sales tax rate changes for July, 2013.

UPDATE, 6.4.13: The Kansas Department of Revenue has updated its local sales and use tax rate change page to reflect the statewide sales tax rate change set to take effect on July 1, 2013.

UPDATE, 5.15.13: The Kansas Department of Revenue has removed the July 2013 local sales and use tax rate change page that lists the changes outlined below. We will keep abreast of the situation.

The Department of Revenue has announced a number of local sales and use tax rate changes, effective July 1, 2013.

The following 2 cities will see a sales tax rate increase:

Cowley County will institute a new sales and use tax of 0.25%, which will bring the combined state and local rate to 6.40%. This change impacts the following cities (listed with July 1, 2013, combined rates):

  • Arkansas City, 8.40%;
  • Atlanta, 6.40%;
  • Burden, 7.40%;
  • Cambridge, 6.40%;
  • Dexter, 6.40%;
  • Geuda Springs, 6.40%;
  • Parkerfield, 6.40%;
  • Udall, 7.40%; and
  • Winfield, 7.40%.

Pratt County will increase its sales and use tax by 0.75%, bringing the local rate to 1.75% and the combined state and local rate to 7.90%. This change impacts the following cities (listed with July 1, 2013, combined rates):

  • Byers, 7.90%;
  • Coats, 7.90%;
  • Cullison, 7.90%;
  • Iuka, 7.90%;
  • Pratt, 8.65%;
  • Preston, 7.90%; and
  • Sawyer, 7.90%

Trego County will increase its sales and use tax by 1%, bringing the local rate to 1.5% and the combined state and local rate to 7.65%. This change impacts the following cities (listed with July 1, 2013, combined rates):

  • Collyer, 8.65%;
  • WaKeeney, 8.65%; and
  • WaKeeney Travel Plaza CID (new), 10.65%.

Effective July 1, 2013, there will be a number of new special districts in Kansas, as well:

It should be noted that the statewide sales and use tax rate of 6.3% is set to drop to 6.15%, effective July 1, 2013.
