Virginia Sales Tax Law: Local Updates

 Virginia passes local tax laws.

 

Virginia passed several local tax laws affecting occupancy tax, coal severance tax, and road improvement tax. 

  • Virginia SB 720 (Chapter 319) allows Grayson County to levy a transient occupancy tax, not to exceed 5%.
  • Virginia SB 980 (Chapter 378) allows Dickenson County to levy a transient occupancy tax to help fund tourism and travel marketing, not to exceed 5%.
  • Virginia SB 918 (Chapter 389) allows local jurisdictions to impose a gross receipts tax for coal mined by coal producers, and an a severance license tax to fund road improvement projects.
