Michigan Sales Tax Rate Change, Prepaid Fuel


 Michigan sets new sales tax rate for prepaid fuel.

Pursuant to the Department of Treasury no later than the 10th of each month. Prepayment rates were previously established on a quarterly basis.

The General Sales Tax Act also expanded the definition of “fuel” to include diesel fuel.

2013 sales tax prepayment rates, per gallon:

  • January and February 2013: 20.5 cents;
  • March 2013: 18.1 cents;
  • April 2013: 20.4 cents (gasoline) and 22.7 cents (diesel);
  • May 2013: 20.0 cents (gasoline) and 22.5 cents (diesel); and
  • June 2013: 20.5 cents (gasoline) and 21.9 cents (diesel).
