New York Rate Extensions, Part 2

New York lawmakers must give localities the authorization to impose additional sales and use taxes. Periodically, these authorizations come up for renewal. Read on to learn about the most recent batch of authorizations.

Extended Tax

The following counties (and city) now have the authority to impose an additional sales and use tax through November 30, 2015. For all of them, this authorization had been set to expire on November 30, 2013. (To see bill text, search for the bill number here.)

  • Albany County, 1% (A6763).
  • Allegany County, 1% or 1.5% (A6645).
  • Broome County, 1% (A6438).
  • Cattaraugus County, 1% (A6738).
  • Cayuga County, 1% (A7031).
  • Chautauqua County, 0.5% (A7165).
  • Chemung County, 1% (A6376).
  • Clinton County, 1% (A6921).
  • Columbia County, 1% (A6826).
  • Cortland County, 1%  (A7186).
  • Delaware County, 1% (A5831).
  • Dutchess County, 0.75% (A5420).
  • Erie County, 1% and an additional tax at 0.75% (A6533).
  • Franklin County, 1% (A6925).
  • Fulton County, 1% (A6572).
  • Genesee County, 1% (A6734).
  • Greene County, 1% (A5840).
  • Herkimer County, 1% and an additional tax at 0.25% (A6614).
  • Livingston County, 1% (A7267).
  • Monroe County, 1% (A6754).
  • Niagara County, 1% (A7040).
  • Onondaga County, 1% (A5499).
  • Ontario County, 0.5% (A5035).
  • Orange County, 1% (A6739).
  • Orleans County, 1% (A6733).
  • Oswego County, 1% (A7042).
  • Otsego County, 1% (A6050).
  • Putnam County, 1% (A7353).
  • Rensselaer County, 1% (A6736).
  • Schenectady County, 0.5% (A7224).
  • Schoharie County, 1% (A6315).
  • Schuyler County, 1% (A5038).
  • Seneca County, 1% (A6587).
  • Steuben County, 1% (A6243).
  • Suffolk County, 1% (A7180).
  • Sullivan County, 0.5% (A7321).
  • Tioga County, 1% (A5902).
  • Tompkins County, 5% or 1% (A6458).
  • Wayne County, 1% (A6737).
  • Wyoming County, 1% (A7135).
  • Yates County, 1% (A6416).
  • Essex County, 1% (A6548). This is a slight increase--the additional tax rate of 0.75% was set to expire on November 30, 2013.
  • City of New Rochelle, 1% (A5138).
  • City of Oswego, 1% (A7004).

New Tax

The following counties have been authorized to impose an additional sales and use tax:

  • Hamilton County, 1%, effective July 31, 2013 (A7020).
  • St. Lawrence County,1%, between December 1, 2013 and November 30, 2015 (A4761).
