Louisiana's 2013 Tax Amnesty Program

Louisiana Tax Amnesty offers tax delinquents a fresh start.

The 2013 Louisiana Tax Amnesty begins next Monday, September 23, at 12:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time. At that time, individual and business taxpayers with delinquent tax accounts are invited to settle unpaid tax bills, file missing returns, and apply for amnesty. Once accepted into the program, all penalties and half of the interest owed on delinquent accounts will be waived. The amnesty period concludes Friday, November 22, at 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time.

The 2013 amnesty program is expected to raise approximately $200 million, which is considerably less than the nearly $483 million raised during Louisiana's 2010 amnesty. Currently, an estimated 300,000 people are thought to owe an approximate $700 million in back taxes; there is no way to know exactly how many delinquent taxpayers will take advantage of the program.
