California: Medi-Cal Managed Care Sales Tax Delayed

  • Oct 22, 2013 | Gail Cole

Patience required: California's sales tax on Medi-Cal managed care plans.

The California State Board of Equalization has announced a delay in the implementation of a new sales tax on Medi-Cal managed care plans. Federal approval is required before the tax can be applied.

California’s tax on sales of Med-Cal managed care plans was initially set to take effect July 1, 2013, and once the tax has been approved, it will be retroactive to that date. However, no taxes will be due until an implementation date has been set and the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has sent out “capitation payments.”
