The Department of Revenue has announced several lodging tax rate changes and RTA boundary changes, to take effect January 1, 2014.

Tourism promotion area (TPA)

The cities of the Tri-Cities area will increase the rate of the TPA tax from $1.50 to $2.00. The rate increase impacts Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, Washington.

Regional transit authority (RTA)

There will be a new location code for sales tax reporting in the Newcastle area, thanks to an upcoming change to the RTA boundary:

  • “Lodging businesses with 60 or more rooms/spaces located within Newcastle, but outside the RTA boundary will need to report to location code 4336.”
  • “Lodging businesses with 59 or fewer rooms/spaces located in the same area will report to location code 4036.”
