Georgia TAVT Rate Increase, January 1, 2014

 Georgia: new TAVT rate in January 2014.

Motor vehicles purchased in Georgia have been subject to an Ad Valorem Title Tax (TAVT) since March 1, 2013, imposed on the fair market value of the car. The current TAVT rate is 6.5%. Effective tomorrow, January 1, 2014, the TAVT rate increases to 6.75%.

Throughout 2014, the TAVT rate will be 6.75%. Effective January 1, 2015, it will jump again, to 7.0%.

The TAVT rate may increase again in the future, but it may never exceed 9.0%
