Minnesota DOR Seeks App to Make Life Easier for Taxpayers

  • Dec 11, 2013 | Gail Cole

 Minnesota DOR: seeking apps to simplify life.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue wants to know.

The department is looking to develop a mobile app. Based on feedback from hundreds of employees, it is considering the following:

  • A GPS that will help businesses calculate and pay the correct rate of sales tax;
  • A way to track tax refund status;
  • A way to access tax debt balances on payment plans; and
  • A way for taxpayers to make payments through “photo pay.”

According to Revenue Deputy Commissioner Matt Massman, “Innovation and customer service are core values here. We know that everyone from business people to tax professionals to busy parents expect to be able to communicate or do business on their smartphone or tablet. We’re in the process of making that possible at the Department of Revenue.”

Anyone and everyone with a good idea for a Department of Revenue app is invited to share it via Facebook, twitter, or email. The deadline is December 13, 2013.

Consider it a gift for the holidays.

For those that need to access sales tax rates for multiple states on a mobile device, Avalara has a solution.
