Missouri Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday Begins April 19, 2014

 Missouri sales tax holiday for Energy Star products, April 19-25, 2014.

The Missouri Department of Revenue has announced the dates for the 2014 Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday. It will commence at 12:01 a.m. on April 19 and conclude April 25 at midnight. This is the sixth year Missouri has allowed a tax-free period for energy efficient products.

The exemption from Missouri state sales tax applies to many Energy Star products, including but not limited to:

  • Air conditioners;
  • Clothes washers;
  • Dishwashers;
  • Furnaces;
  • Refrigerators and freezers; and
  • Water heaters.

The exemption “is limited to qualifying Energy Star certified new appliances, up to $1,500.” For qualifying products costing more than $1,500, “the first $1,500 is exempt from tax and the remaining amount in excess of $1,500 is taxable at the full rate.”

State sales tax may not be applied to qualifying products during the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday. However, local tax jurisdictions may opt to impose local sales tax upon qualifying products.

The cities, counties, and districts participating in the 2014 Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday are listed on the Missouri Department of Revenue website, along with other pertinent tax holiday information.
