Colorado: File on Time and Get a Discount

  • May 26, 2014 | Gail Cole

 Colorado rewards timely filers.

The Colorado Department of Revenue will once again offer a discount for returns filed on time. Beginning July 1, 2014, the service fee (also known as the vendor’s fee or the discount fee) will be 3.33%. It is currently 2.22%.

The service fee rate of 3.33% applies to the following:

  • Colorado state sales tax;
  • Colorado state retailer’s use tax;
  • Aviation sales tax; and
  • RTD/CD (Denver metro area) special district taxes.

The service fee does not apply to state-collected local jurisdictions. However, taxpayers are advised to keep on top of those rates, which do change periodically.  Additional information is available on Colorado Sales/Use Tax Rates, DR 1002.

Sales tax rates, rules, and regulations change frequently. Although we hope you'll find this information helpful, this blog is for informational purposes only and does not provide legal or tax advice.
