Additional Sales Tax Approved for Shreveport, Louisiana

 Shreveport, Louisiana.

Recently approved legislation in Louisiana provides for the imposition and renewal of additional sales and use taxes levied and collected by the governing authority of Shreveport. It also removes duration limits for additional sales and use taxes. The additional sales tax may not exceed 0.25%.

The Act reads:

“The ordinance imposing the tax shall be adopted only if the question of the imposition of the tax is approved by a majority of the qualified electors voting on the proposition at the election scheduled to be held in the city of Shreveport on November 8, 2016.”

The legislation does not impact “the additional sales and use tax being imposed within the city of Shreveport on the effective date of this Act that was approved by the voters in the city of Shreveport at an election held on December 8, 2012.”
