Connecticut: Change to Sales Tax Filing Due Dates

There's an easier way to file sales tax returns.

Update, 6.18.14: While some aspects of the new legislation take effect immediately, the filing change discussed below does not take effect until October 1, 2014. See Public Act 14-155, Section 14, (1) (a) ff (page 24, ff).

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy (D) has approved legislation changing sales and use tax filing due dates.

Sales tax returns have been generally due on or before the last day of the month following each monthly or quarterly period. Effective October 1, 2014, sales tax returns are to be filed on or before the 20th day of the month following each monthly or quarterly period, “or on the date or dates prescribed by the commissioner….”

The commissioner may deem it necessary to “permit or require returns and payment of the amount of taxes for other than monthly or quarterly periods.”
