California: Counties Authorized to Impose Transaction Taxes
- Jul 23, 2014 | Gail Cole
California Governor Jerry Brown (D) has approved legislation that authorizes the board of supervisors of a county to levy, increase or extend certain transactions and use taxes, provided the change is approved by vote. Revenue from any such taxes would have to be used within the area for which the tax was approved by voters.
AB 2119 is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2015.
