California Compliance Team Visits Approaching Half-Million Mark
- Aug 12, 2014 | Gail Cole

Teams from the California State Board of Equalization (BOE) Statewide Compliance and Outreach Program (SCOP) have visited more than 489,000 California businesses since the inception of the program in 2008. SCOP teams are contacting every retailer in the state in order to educate them: to ensure they understand tax laws and are properly reporting sales and use tax.
SCOP teams conduct door-to-door visits but they do not arrive at businesses unannounced. Businesses are sent letters informing them of upcoming visits. Currently, the BOE is mailing letters to 8,539 businesses in the following areas (with zip codes):
- Berkeley (94710)
- Hayward (94541, 94544)
- Sebastopol (95472)
- Mariposa (95338)
- Escalon (95320)
- Oakdale (95361)
- Sacramento (95827)
- Mountain View (94040)
- Paso Robles (93447)
- Oceano (93445)
- Cupertino (95014)
Home based businesses are not visited and personal financial information is never discussed. Additional information.
