Louisiana: 2014 Tax Amnesty Program

  • Aug 18, 2014 | Gail Cole

 The Louisiana capitol, Baton Rouge.

The Louisiana Department of Revenue (DOR) announced the dates of the 2014 tax amnesty program. It will run from October 15 through November 14 2014.

During the 30-day period, noncompliant individual and business taxpayers have an opportunity to “settle their accounts with the state by paying 100 percent of delinquent taxes.” Those who do so will be rewarded with “a waiver of all penalties and 50% of the interest owed.”

Give it time

Unlike last year, this year’s amnesty program allows delinquent taxpayers to set up installment plans. Taxpayers may make payments over six months and still benefit from the penalty and interest waiver.

According to Secretary of Revenue Tim Barfield, “Delinquent taxpayers have more options than ever to satisfy their obligations. Hopefully this will encourage everybody who has fallen behind to take this opportunity to make a fresh start.”

Windfall

If all goes according to plan, the state could collect $100 million during the 2014 tax amnesty program. Additional information.
