DC to Tax Bowling, Tanning, and Yoga

  • Sep 4, 2014 | Gail Cole

 Tax the tan.

The District of Columbia is extending the 5.75% sales tax to numerous services, effective October 1, 2014.

New taxable services:

  • Bottled water delivery service
  • Bowling alley or billiard parlor services
  • Car washing services
  • Carpet and upholstery cleaning services
  • Health club services
  • Storage of household goods
  • Tanning services

That exercise class you’ve been thinking of taking? Taxable. Wednesday night bowling? Taxable. And that manmade tan? Tax it.

Additional information is available on the Office of Tax and Revenue Notice 2014-09.
