Rate set for prepaid mobile phones in Nebraska.

The Nebraska Department of Revenue has released the prepaid wireless surcharge tax rate for the period January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015. It will remain at the current 1.0% rate.

The surcharge applies to all retail sales of prepaid wireless telecommunications services, including:

  • Prepaid mobile phones
  • Prepaid phone cards
  • Recharging prepaid phones and phone cards

Revenue generated by the surcharge helps fund emergency 911 services in Nebraska communities and a statewide system for specialized telecommunications equipment for qualified hearing impaired persons.
