Illinois Telecommunications Tax Rate Changes, January 2015


 Illinois: new telecommunications tax rates.

Several Illinois municipalities will have new municipal telecommunications tax rates, effective January 1, 2015. All rates are on the rise.

The Illinois Department of Revenue has announced rate changes for the following cities:

  • Beach Park, in Lake County, will increase the local rate by 1%. The new combined rate will be 13%.
  • Bethalto, in Madison County, will increase the local rate by 5%. The new combined rate will be 13%.
  • Bloomington, in McLean County, will increase the local rate by 2.5%. The new combined rate will be 13%.
  • Clinton, in Dewitt County, will increase the local rate by 4%. The new combined rate will be 13%.
  • Melrose Park, in Cook County, will increase the local rate by 0.25%. The new combined rate will be 12.25%.
  • Pittsburg, in Williamson County, will increase the local rate by 1%. The new combined rate will be 13%.

Combined rates include the state telecommunications excise tax (7%) and the simplified municipal telecommunications tax, which can be up to 6% outside of Chicago.
