Minnesota Smokers to Pay More for Cigarettes in 2015

The price of cigarettes will increase in Minnesota on January 1, 2015, just in time for New Year’s resolutions. This could provide the extra motivation smokers wishing to quit need.
The new cigarette sales tax rate will be 52.6 cents per pack of 20 cigarettes. The new excise tax rate will be 145 mills, or 14.5 cents per cigarette/ $2.90 per pack of 20. Rates should be adjusted proportionally for packs containing other than 20 cigarettes.
Currently, the sales tax rate is 51.2 cents per 20-pack and the excise tax rate is 14.15 cents per cigarette, or $2.83 per pack of 20.
