 Japantown in Walnut Grove, California.

Teams from the California Board of Equalization Statewide Compliance and Outreach Program (SCOP) are preparing to visit nearly 6,000 businesses located in ten different California zip codes. Affected business owners will soon receive letters informing them of the upcoming SCOP team visits.

SCOP teams will soon be visiting businesses in the following areas (zip codes):

  • Elverta (95626)
  • Jamestown (95327)
  • Mather (95655)
  • Mission Hills (91345)
  • Rio Linda (95673)
  • Sacramento (95814)
  • San Bernardino (92408)
  • San Diego (92111)
  • San Fernando (91340)
  • Walnut Grove (95690)

Only business will be discussed during the door-to-door visits. SCOP team members will not inquire about personal financial information and they will not visit home-based businesses.

Any businesses found to be noncompliant, such as operating without a seller’s permit, will be given instructions on how to rectify the situation. More than 98% of businesses visited by team members have been found to be compliant since the program began in 2008. The remaining, noncompliant businesses are at least partially responsible for more than $2 million in uncollected sales and use taxes.
