Texas: Sales Tax Holiday for Firearms, Hunting Supplies

  • Dec 17, 2014 | Gail Cole

Texas lawmakers introduce sales tax holiday for hunting supplies.

Lawmakers in Texas have introduced legislation to provide for a temporary exemption from sales tax for firearms and hunting supplies. HB 206 and SB 228 will not be considered until after the new year, during the 2015-16 legislative session.

The bills provide for a sales tax holiday “beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the Friday before the last full weekend in August and ending at 12 midnight the following Sunday.” Eligible items include:

  • Ammunition
  • Archery equipment
  • Hunting blinds and stands
  • Hunting decoys
  • Firearm cleaning supplies
  • Gun cases and gun safes
  • Hunting optics
