New Sales Tax Exemption for Alabama Zoo

  • Jun 25, 2015 | Gail Cole

Chillin' at the Birmingham Zoo, Alabama.

Newly enacted legislation adds the Birmingham Zoo of Birmingham, Alabama, to a respectable list of exempt entities.

Under SB 310, “The Birmingham Zoo, Inc., is exempt from paying any state, county, and municipal sales and use taxes associated with any and all capital expenditures.” It’s worth noting that the zoo must continue collecting and remitting all other taxes to the appropriate taxing authorities.

The exemption takes effect September 1, 2015 and expires September 1, 2019.
