Tennessee to Exempt Diabetic Testing Supplies


 Certain diabetic supplies will be exempt from Tennessee sales tax, July 2015.

Beginning July 1, 2015, certain diabetic testing supplies will be exempt from Tennessee sales and use tax.

To be eligible for the exemption, the supplies must be purchased for human use. The following qualify as diabetic testing supplies:

  • Any syringe used to dispense insulin
  • Diabetic testing supplies, including:
    • Lancets
    • Test strips for blood glucose monitors
    • Urine test strips
    • Visual read test strips

The new exemption is due to the enactment of House Bill 122.
