Florida CST Changes, January 2016

  • Oct 14, 2015 | Gail Cole

Florida: Communications services tax rate changes take effect January 2016.

Communications Services Tax (CST) rates in Florida are based on the local rate imposed under Section 202.19, Florida Statutes and discretionary sales surtaxes imposed under Section 212.055, F.S. New CST rates will take effect January 1, 2016.

As of this writing, there are two rate changes due to local ordinance (Tax Information Publication 15A19-03):

  • Columbia County (unincorporated area): 5.22%
  • Estero (new jurisdiction in Lee County): 3.61%

The Florida Department of Revenue urges caution with respect to changing CST rates at this time and reminds that it will issue another Tax Information Publication in November, after counties have alerted the department of any changes in county discretionary sales surtaxes.
