One Stop for Sales Tax License and Filing

  • Nov 12, 2015 | Gail Cole

Vendors at special events in Colorado can obtain a sales tax license and file sales tax for an event with one click.

The best-case scenario holiday shopping is complete with one stop. Gifts for parents, children, siblings, spouse, friends? At the right holiday fair, festival or bazaar, you can find them all. At least in theory.

In reality, the Colorado Department of Revenue is making it easier for special events’ vendors to comply with Colorado sales tax requirements. Temporary vendors may now obtain a sales tax license after a special event, when they can also file the sales tax collected there. Done and done.

The department reminds that businesses with a sales tax license for a permanent location are required to obtain a special events license for sales made at any other location (such as a holiday fair). But now, it’s easy as eating pie*: learn more.

Consider a gift.

*It may not be quite so easy for events in home rule cities and counties. Vendors are advised to contact that local government to learn any additional requirements.
