Wisconsin County to Receive Ample Sales Tax Refund

  • Nov 30, 2015 | Gail Cole

Several months worth of special sales tax revenue is being refunded to Brown County, Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker tweeted that he's at Lambeau Field today to sign Senate Bill 233, which issues a sales tax refund of almost $18 million to Brown County.

The refund is due to the over collection of a local professional football stadium district sales tax, levied to raise revenue to improve the home of the Green Bay Packers. Taxes imposed or collected between April 1, 2015 and September 30, 2015 will be distributed by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue as follows:

  • 25% to Brown County
  • 75% to the cities, villages and towns in Brown County in proportion to the population of each

The special tax made headlines after it expired and both local and Internet retailers continued to collect it.
