January 2016 Alabama Tax Rate Changes

 More local January sales tax rate changes in Alabama.

The New Year brings new local sales and use tax and lodgings tax rates to several localities in Alabama.

Bayou La Batre

The City of Bayou La Batre has announced that the Alabama Department of Revenue is no longer administering taxes for the city effective January 1, 2016. Instead, Revenue Discovery Systems (RDS) is administering both sales and use tax and lodgings tax for the Bayou La Batre. Questions regarding these taxes should be addressed to RDS at 1-800-556-7274.

City of Columbiana

The City of Columbiana increased the rate for the net difference paid for all automotive vehicles, truck trailers, semitrailers and house trailers from 1.5% to 2%, effective January 1, 2016.

Geraldine

New sales and use tax rates took effect in Geraldine, effective January 1, 2016. The general rate and the rate for admissions and food sold through vending machines is 3%. The rate for machines, machinery and equipment for agriculture and manufacturing is 1%, as is the rate for the net difference paid for all automotive vehicles, truck trailers, semi-trailers and house trailers. Rates for transactions within the police jurisdiction but outside the corporate limits of town are half of the rates stated above. Additional information.

Pinson

Effective January 1, 2016, the general rate of sales tax, the rate for admissions to places of amusement and entertainment, and the rate for food sold through vending machines increased from 2% to 4% in the City of Pinson. All other rates remain the same. Additional information.

Vernon

Effective January 1, 2016, the general rate of sales tax, the rate for admissions to places of amusement and entertainment, and the rate for food sold through vending machines increased from 2% to 3% in the City of Vernon. The withdrawal fee for automotive vehicle dealers increased from 4% to 5%. All other rates remain the same. Rates outside the corporate limits of town but inside the police jurisdiction are half of the rates stated above. Additional information.
