Maryland’s February 2016 Tax Free Weekend

A sales tax holiday to encourage energy efficiency.

Many Energy Star products will be exempt from Maryland sales and use tax during the upcoming annual Shop Maryland Energy tax-free weekend. It runs from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, February 13 through midnight on Monday, February 15, 2016.

The following products qualify for the exemption when sporting the Energy Star® label:

  • Air conditioners
  • Boilers
  • Clothes washers and dryers
  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs and LED light bulbs
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Furnaces
  • Heat pumps
  • Programmable thermostats
  • Refrigerators (standard size)
  • Solar water heaters (now tax-exempt year-round)

Maryland does not have local sales and use tax, so the exemption applies only to the 6% state rate. Learn more about Maryland sales tax holidays.
