Michigan Fuel Tax Rates, Summer 2016

July and August prepaid sales tax rates for fuel sold in Michigan.

Prepaid sales tax rates on fuel sold in Michigan are subject to change monthly. Prepayment rates are based on 6% of the statewide average retail price (self-serve) of a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline and a gallon of undyed No. 2 ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel. After months of declining rates, the rates have been steadily rising since April.

July 2016 rates

  • Gasoline: 12.2 cents per gallon
  • Diesel fuel: 12.2 cents per gallon

August 2016 rates

  • Gasoline: 13.5 cents per gallon
  • Diesel fuel: 12.9 cents per gallon
