Louisiana’s 2nd amendment sales tax holiday

  • Sep 2, 2016 | Gail Cole

Exempt from Louisiana local sales tax this weekend.

Louisiana is offering its 7th annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday Friday, September 2, through Sunday, September 4, 2016.

In prior years, qualifying guns, ammunition, and hunting supplies were exempt from both state and local sales and use tax during the Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday. This year, however, the exemption only applies to local sales and use tax. To help dig the state out of a deep fiscal hole, the 3% state sales tax applies to all eligible purchases. It would be more appropriate to call this the Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Reduction.

See the Louisiana Department of Revenue for additional information, including special provisions and a list of eligible items.
