California sales tax changes, January 2017
- Nov 29, 2016 | Gail Cole

Both local and state sales tax rate changes are set to take effect in California on January 1, 2017.
The state sales and use tax rate will drop from the current rate of 7.5% to 7.25%. This change is due to voter approval of Proposition 30, which imposed a temporary 0.25% sales tax from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2016.
In addition, the local sales and use tax rate for the City of Long Beach will increase by 0.75%. This will bring the combined state and local rate for Long Beach to 9.75%.
