January 2017 Illinois sales tax changes

 Sales tax rates will soon change in many Illinois special districts.

Numerous local sales and use tax rate changes are set to take effect on January 1, 2017 in Illinois. All are rate increases, and most involve special districts rather than municipalities or counties.

City rate changes

The home rule municipality of Danville (Vermillion County) will increase by 0.50%, bringing the total rate to 9.25%

Special district rate changes (listed with new combined rates)

  • Belleville (St. Clair County): the 6401 West Main Street Marketplace Business District rate is increasing by 1% (9.10%)
  • Centralia (Clinton County): sales tax in Jolliff Bridge Business District will increase by 1% (7.25%)
  • Collinsville (Madison County): the rate in Southwest Corridors Business District will increase by 1% (9.10%)
  • Collinsville (St. Clair County): sales tax in Southwest Corridors Business District will increase by 1% (9.60%)
  • Columbia (Monroe County): sales tax in Main St. Abbey Business District will increase by 1% (8.50%)
  • East Dundee (Kane County): Christina Drive Business Development District sales tax will increase by 0.25% (9.75%)
  • Effingham (Effingham County): Triangle Business District sales tax will increase by 1% (7.5%)
  • Energy (Williamson County): sales tax in Energy Business District will increase by 1% (8.25%)
  • Granville (Putnam County): sales tax in Granville Business District will increase by 1% (7.25%)
  • Heyworth (McLean County): Heyworth Business Development District No. 1 sales tax will increase by 1% (7.25%)
  • Hillsboro (Montgomery County): sales tax in Hillsboro Business District will increase by 1% (7.25%)
  • Lake Villa (Lake County): sales tax in Lake Villa Downtown Business will increase by 1% (8.00%)
  • Maroa (Macon County): Maroa Business District sales tax will increase by 1% (8.50%)
  • Nokomis (Montgomery County): Nokomis Business District sales tax will increase by 1% (7.25%)
  • O’Fallon (St. Clair County): sales tax in Route 50/Scott-Troy Road Business District will increase by 1% (8.85%)
  • Peoria Heights (Peoria County): Peoria Heights Business Development District No. 1 sales tax will increase by 1% (9.25%)
  • Ramsey (Fayette County): sales tax in Ramsey Business District will increase by 0.50% (6.75%)
  • Salem (Marion County): sales tax in Main/I-57 Business District will increase by 1% (7.85%)
  • Troy (Madison County): the sales tax rate in Troy Business District II will increase by 1% (7.85%)
  • Willowbrook (DuPage County): Illinois Route 83/Plainfield Road Business District sales tax will increase by 1% (8.00%)
